The Port Aransas area has many exceptional opportunities for the passionate golfer. The following four courses rank favorably among players of all skill levels. No matter which one you decide to try, you’ll find stunning views and exhilarating challenges.
Live Oak Country Club
Aptly named after the mature live oaks that frame the fairways, the Live Oak Country Club in Rockport features nine private holes. Since the short, flat layout measures just under 2,900 yards, this makes the course ideal for walking golfers and for those with busy lifestyles. The design features random bunkers and a few water hazards. Highlights include a par-5 hole that plays 500 yards and a par-4 hole with a 335-yard play.
Palmilla Beach Golf Club
The 71-par golf course at Palmilla Beach measures over 6,900 yards from the longest tees and winds through natural dunes lined with native grasses. Its challenges will remind you of playing in Scotland and includes rolling fairways, imposing greens and ocean breezes. All the while, you’ll get to enjoy magnificent views of Corpus Christi Bay and the Gulf of Mexico.
Designed by Arnold Palmer, it’s the only ocean-side golf course in the area. It’s also the nation’s sole seaside course that was entirely designed by Palmer and his group. This 18-hole, 71-par marvel plays through the coastline’s natural dune scenery. Players will encounter troublesome golf bunkers, deceivingly arranged fairways, large water hazards, and fast and rolling greens.
North Shore Country Club
The North Shore Country Club in Portland offers fine golfing along Corpus Christi Bay. The 72-par, 18-hole course features 6,805 yards from the longest tees. While the layout doesn’t have many trees to impede play, it challenges golfers with numerous water hazards, bunkers and sidehill lie. Plus, there’s usually a stiff breeze blowing in from the bay. The layout favors numerous blind tee shots and the back nine play like a position golf course.
Oso Beach Municipal Golf Course
Located 35 minutes away from Aransas, the Oso Beach Municipal Golf Course in Corpus Christi was designed by the co-founder of the Texas Open and the Texas PGA, John Bredemus. The 70-par tree-lined layout is covered in Bermuda grass and has a nice selection of sand and water traps. The 6,223-yard course has a player-friendly reputation, but it challenges with bunkers throughout and water hazards on the back nine. The 180-yard signature 13th hole makes a tall par-3 order because it requires a tee shot into the wind and over water.
